Ben Cano

Ben Cano is an engineering and asset management professional with more than 35 years of experience spanning hydropower operations and maintenance, electrical engineering, equipment condition assessment, compliance, capital project delivery, and organizational leadership. His work has covered hydroelectric facilities ranging from small plants to major federal generation assets, together with switchyards, pumping stations, water-conveyance infrastructure, and utility substations.

During his career with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Ben served in field, regional, agency, and multi-agency roles. He led and supported maintenance improvement initiatives, condition-assessment programs, NERC/WECC compliance audits, incident investigations, asset-management strategy, and a five-year distributed monitoring and analytics pilot designed to advance condition-based and predictive maintenance. He also co-led federal hydropower performance efforts and advised industry and national-laboratory collaborations.

Ben has facilitated technical workshops for engineers, operations and maintenance teams, managers, and cross-functional federal partners. His instruction connects field realities with program strategy, helping organizations translate asset condition, risk, data, and capital needs into practical decisions and executable work.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Idaho and completed the U.S. Office of Personnel Management Leadership Education and Development Program at the manager level.
